Welcome to Ray's Re-cap
In light of the welfare discussion that has occurred over the last few days, one point is being missed by the general public because it is not being widely reported.
The federal government has determined that
Maine has the highest error rate in the nation for administering the food stamp program. We are experiencing a 10.48% error rate which greatly exceeds the national average. The error rate is caused by mistakes made by state workers in figuring eligibility of those applying.
The state of
Maine has had the highest error rate in the nation for the second year in a row. DHHS Commissioner Brenda Harvey says it is because DHHS is under-staffed and needs to hire 20 people immediately to improve the error rate in
Maine .
This recommendation comes at a time when Governor Baldacci has ordered a state hiring freeze.
